A public service announcement from our local paramedics.

Most of our paramedics live locally, but that doesn’t always mean we can find your home easily (especially if you ... ahem ... don’t have a house number up).

Help us to help you.

Make sure your guests or vacation renters know the address of the home they are staying in.

Make sure you have a house number that is easily visible from the street at night. And if you can remember to, tell the person you’re speaking with if there are any tricks to your home ... are there multiple homes on one driveway? Do you have an arbutus tree that has curled itself across the driveway? Is your front deck unsafe to walk on and we should go round back? ... all of that information gets to us and helps us get to you quicker.

Please help us keep everyone safe by following all BC Centre for Disease Control guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic. www.bccdc.ca

Please keep in mind that we're very interconnected in a small community. It is easy for us to spread a virus to each other. We have limited health care and emergency services, and we are all connected either directly or by degrees to someone in essential services or to vulnerable people.

If you have arrived from out of country, you must self-isolate for 14 days.

If you think you may have been in contact with COVID-19, please call 811 for clear direction on how to proceed. Dial 911 for emergencies only. For urgent care, Pender Medical Clinic office hours, 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm, call 250-629-3233 or after hours, 1-800-866-5602. Pender Medical Clinic will only see registered clients unless it is urgent.

For inquiries about COVID-19 that are health related, call BC HealthLink at 811 (or 711 for the hearing impaired).

For other inquiries related to COVID-19 that are about cleaning, self isolation, quarantine, etc. call ‪1-888-COVID19 (888.268.4319).

Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet, and where not possible, wear a mask.

Read up on how to wear a mask and wash your hands properly.

Assume you may have the virus and act accordingly.

Thank you for being patient, calm and kind.

If you are like most business owners, you have seen the economic and social upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic up close. While many government programs have been rolled out to navigate this, not everyone has been covered, and at this moment in time we are looking at the recovery phase knowing that the pandemic is introducing a new normal.

We have been asked to canvas the SGI businesses to better understand what is your situation and what needs to be done to support the business sector.

We would like to impress that your answers will be vitally important to help steer the recovery for the whole region. Note that more than one person from your organization may respond to this survey. Even if business is the same, or better than ever, please fill out this survey.

Please note, there is a SEPARATE SURVEY LINK for the NON-PROFITS than there is for the FOR PROFIT sector.

If you live and operate your business outside the Southern Gulf Island region, (Pender, Mayne, Saturna, and Galiano) check in with your local Chamber of Commerce.

Just click on the above link (if you have difficulty accessing it by clicking, copy and paste the address into a web address bar).

The British Columbia government has declared a provincial state of emergency to support the provincewide response to the novel coronovirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Pender Island is following Provincial Health Authority guidelines and is preparing for a Coronavirus outbreak. All public areas including camping, Inns/hotels and venues remain closed. Emergency services for the island are very limited and island residents are very connected as everyone working with one essential service is connected to someone else working for another essential service. It will be hard to contain the virus if it spreads here.

Please respect the Covid-19 guidelines and do not visit at this time. Stay healthy, stay safe, and shelter in place. We look forward to welcoming you as soon as we can.

Please keep each other safe by following the Centre Disease Control message of keeping a distance of six feet from other people.

If you are having a medical emergency dial 911.

If you are a have symptoms dial 811 for the BC Health Line.

Do NOT go to the Medical Clinic. The Pender Medical Clinic is by appointment only and for clients of the clinic only, and at this time, everyone must call and speak with a medical office assistant.

For local up to date health information for our area, visit www.penderislandhealth.ca

The food bank is in operation for Pender Island residents only.
